Euphrates River is drying up, just as Bible predicted would happen before Armageddon

Water levels on the Euphrates River are dropping fast and have reached historically low levels. This worrying drought has sparked fears that a biblical end-times prophecy could be in the process of being fulfilled.

According to the Center for Strategic & International Studies (CSIS), water levels in the Euphrates have now dropped to one of the lowest points ever recorded.

As the river continues to dry up, a debate has emerged online as some are questioning whether this signals the end of times, as prophesied in Revelation, or is simply further evidence of so-called “climate change.”

While I am not averse to the concept of climate change, I do not believe the changing climate is caused by human activity, at least not in any substantial way. The climate has always been in a state of flux since man has been recording it and long before any emissions of greenhouse gases were part of the equation.

Below is an excerpt from the U.K.-based Daily Star:

The shrinking Euphrates – Western Asia’s longest river, which flows through Turkey, Syria and Iraq – cuts through one of the Bible‘s most important regions, the Fertile Crescent. The waterway plays a crucial role in the Book of Revelation – and a prophecy linked to its role has generated significant anxiety online, as it predicts the end times and Christ’s Second Coming.

Revelation 16:12 reads: “The sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great river Euphrates, and its water was dried up to prepare the way for the kings from the East.” Many believe this serves as a warning that once the Euphrates runs dry, a massive army from the East will advance across the riverbed towards the Battle of Armageddon. This verse represents the second Biblical prophecy regarding the Euphrates drying up, with the first found in Jeremiah 50:38, where God proclaimed: “A drought on her waters! They will dry up. For it is a land of idols, idols that will go mad with terror.”

What is the Biblical ‘second prophecy’ The second prophecy in Revelation, part of the seven bowl judgements symbolising the end of the seven-year tribulation, is so devastating that “no human being would be saved.” The dwindling state of the river has left end-times believers increasingly unsettled, with many convinced this ancient prophecy is unfolding before our eyes, reports the Express.

A 2013 NASA report revealed that both the Tigris and Euphrates river basins – the waters of Babylon – lost a staggering 117 million acre feet (34 cubic miles) of freshwater between 2003 and 2009. This volume of water loss is roughly on par with that of the Dead Sea, with the lion’s share (60%) due to groundwater being extracted from underground reservoirs.

In bygone times, these two formidable rivers allowed farming communities to flourish, but today they are gradually drying up amid an escalating crisis. For those who steadfastly believe in Biblical end-times prophecy, such a development could see the prophecy come to pass within the next few decades.

Iraq’s Ministry of Water Resources has warned that without immediate action, the Euphrates River could completely dry up by 2040, with falling water levels further exacerbated by droughts driven by climate change.

What risks does the Euphrates present to humans?

Declining water levels and worsening water quality are also sparking a slew of additional issues, including famine and disease.

“Diarrhea, chicken pox, measles, typhoid fever, and cholera are currently spreading across Iraq because of the water crisis.

What do you think? Is this likely tied to the biblical prophecies or just part of the shifting global climate patterns?

  1. Sure, we believe in it.

The book in question was written by a tiny tribe who wanted to be more important than they were. So the created stories where they pretend that some “god” chose them as a ‘special people’.

The “god” they worshiped look very much like a vengeful, murderous, psychopath (the devil) and when Jesus Christ came to present a complete different message, this evil tribe had him killed and used his fame to carry themselves to positions they would have never dreamt of without him.

Did you know that when Iran destroyed US radars in Gulf puppet regimes, the drought that affected Iran since decades ended?

This is how they modify climate these days:

  3. Most church pastors today dare not preach from Revelation. I decided to Google to see what might be the typical reasons for not doing so:

    Why Revelation is Frequently Avoided

    • Complexity and Symbolism: The book is packed with symbolic imagery, such as beasts and coded numbers (e.g., 666), requiring intense study to understand and teach.
    • Diverse Interpretations: There are several differing theological viewpoints on eschatology (end times), which can lead to debate or controversy within a church.
    • Desire to Avoid “Doom and Gloom”: Many pastors prefer positive, uplifting, or pastoral-focused messages rather than focusing on judgment and tribulations.
    • Fear of Misinterpretation/Sensationalism: Because of high-profile, failed, and sensationalized predictions about the end of the world, pastors often avoid the topic to avoid being labeled as false teachers or fearmongers.
    • Time Constraints: A deep, accurate study of Revelation requires a long sermon series (often 12–24 weeks), which many churches do not do.

But Revelation 1:3 says: “Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear, and who keep what is written in it, for the time is near”.

So there is a BLESSING for reading it, and for keeping what is written! You would think that a so-called church pastor would desire to have such a blessing and to share it with others?

Also there are the 7 churches in Revelation, of which only one – the church of Philadelphia – was approved of having been correct in it’s teaching, The remaining six were deemed as being apostate and had to repent and get things right.

Sadly, only 1 out of 7 got it right. No wonder why there’s so many apostate churches that abound today!

      1. Hello Gary. There’s some slippage in some of the 7 churches but I don’t see the church in Smyrna being rebuked. They seem to be steadfast in the faith.
      2. I think the Pastors you mention might feel stifled by the warnings mentioned in Revelation 22. It’s a pity, because we need knowledgeable Christians to take a stand against the wave of false teaching being spread in the church today.

  4. I see this as shifting climate patterns AND another indication that Jesus is coming SOON. Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour. 1 Peter 5:8

  5. There is in our generation a demonstrably unprecedented convergence of prophetic biblical stage setting taking place right before our eyes. I just recently put together my own list of 30 different items, and the Euphrates river drying up was one of them. The list of thirty represents end times prophecies that have either already been fulfilled and/or will see their ultimate fulfillment inside of Daniel’s 70th week (more commonly referred to and known by most Christians as the 7-year tribulation period). Just the rebirth of Israel after almost 1900 years and the never-before-seen technology that will clearly form the foundation for the Mark of the Beast/Antichrist system tell us time is incredibly short. Then when you add in other things like the Euphrates drying up, the Ezekiel 38 geo-political coalition, the rise of anti-semitism, the increase of raptors in the mountains surrounding Jerusalem, the rise of globalism, etc., the convergence simply becomes increasingly compelling. I love the analogy John Woolvard used with Thanksgiving and Christmas, as compared to the rapture of the Church and Jesus’ physical second coming to earth. Thanksgiving does not really have any signs that show up, but Christmas has all kinds of them. When you start seeing all the signs of Christmas (candy canes, lights, trees, etc.), you know Thanksgiving is coming very soon. When you see all the stage setting for events that have their ultimate fulfillment inside of Daniel’s 70th week, you know the rapture of the Church is not only imminent, but also soon. Maranatha!!!

    1. It’s fascinating how everything is coming together exactly as foretold . The spiritually hungry can a sense it . The Holy Spirit is being poured out right now as Jesus is telling His children look up . Maranatha !!

      1. The bible predicts a massive rise in deception, delusion, and demonic activity in the time leading up to Christ’s return.

The world including the apostate church and those who hold on to the dispensationalist false doctrine, will be fooled.

True Christians who are grounded in sound doctrine will not be deceived. They will be persecuted because of their testimony. The true Christians will be raptured and enter their rest at Christ’s glorious 2nd coming as stated by Christ and by Paul. Then God will unleash his wrath including the trumpet judgements on those who remain on this earth as it’s being destroyed.

    2. @Ronald

Daniel’s 70th week was fulfilled during Christ’s earthly ministry. He was “cut off” in the midst of the week exactly as Daniel prophesied. Christ’s perfect sacrifice brought an end to the ritual sacrifices and oblations, which were only shadows pointing to Him.

      • Christ confirmed the covenant (Matthew 26:28)
      • Christ ended sacrifice by His own sacrifice (Hebrews 10)
      • Christ ministered for 3½ years and was crucified / cut off in the midst of the 70th week.

Dispensationalism misinterprets Daniel’s prophecy by inventing a “gap” or “parenthesis” of indefinite duration. The Bible never says that the prophetic clock stopped after the 69th week. Daniel’s prophecy explicitly states 70 weeks, and the timeline fits perfectly with Christ’s ministry and atoning work.

Harry Ironside’s book The Great Parenthesis openly admits that Scripture must be reinterpreted to accommodate this invented gap. This is the problem: the system is imposed on the Bible, rather than the Bible shaping the system.

      As a result, dispensationalism:

      • inserts a gap the text never mentions
      • reassigns Christ’s covenant to the antichrist
      • reassigns Christ’s ending of sacrifice to the antichrist
      • breaks the 70‑week structure
      • contradicts the early church
      • contradicts the New Testament
      • contradicts the Hebrew grammar

It was Christ who ended the Old Testament sacrificial system by establishing the New Covenant through His own blood.

      Hebrews 10 says:

“He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second.”

Hebrews 10 confirms that Christ ended ritual sacrifice. Dispensationalism, however, prioritizes its system over the plain teaching of Scripture.

Those who knowingly distort the Scriptures and resist the Holy Spirit’s testimony about Christ will answer for it.
