Guest Post by John W. Whitehead
“No president from either party should have the sole power to shut down or take control of the internet or any other of our communication channels during an emergency.”—Senator Rand Paul
What’s to stop the U.S. government from throwing the kill switch and shutting down phone and internet communications in a time of so-called crisis?
After all, it’s happening all over the world.
Communications kill switches have become tyrannical tools of domination and oppression to stifle political dissent, shut down resistance, forestall election losses, reinforce military coups, and keep the populace isolated, disconnected and in the dark, literally and figuratively.
As the Guardian reports, “From Ukraine to Myanmar, government-run internet outages are picking up pace around the world. In 2021, there were 182 shutdowns in 34 countries… Countries across Africa and Asia have turned to shutdowns in a bid to control behaviour, while India, largely in the conflict-ridden region of Jammu and Kashmir, plunged into digital darkness more times than any other last year… Civil unrest in Ethiopia and Kazakhstan has triggered internet shutdowns as governments try to prevent political mobilisation and stop news about military suppression from emerging.”
In an internet-connected age, killing the internet is tantamount to bringing everything—communications, commerce, travel, the power grid—to a standstill.
Tyrants and would-be tyrants rely on this “cloak of darkness” to advance their agendas.
In Myanmar, for example, the internet shutdown came on the day a newly elected government was to have been sworn in. That’s when the military staged a digital coup and seized power. Under cover of a communications blackout that cut off the populace from the outside world and each other, the junta “carried out nightly raids, smashing down doors to drag out high-profile politicians, activists and celebrities.”
These government-imposed communications shutdowns serve to not only isolate, terrorize and control the populace, but also underscore the citizenry’s lack of freedom in the face of the government’s limitless power.
Yet as University of California Irvine law professor David Kaye explains, these kill switches are no longer exclusive to despotic regimes. They have “migrated into a toolbox for governments that actually do have the rule of law.”
This is what digital authoritarianism (also called technocracy) looks like in a technological age.
Digital authoritarianism, as the Center for Strategic and International Studies cautions, involves the use of information technology to surveil, repress, and manipulate the populace, endangering human rights and civil liberties, and co-opting and corrupting the foundational principles of democratic and open societies, “including freedom of movement, the right to speak freely and express political dissent, and the right to personal privacy, online and off.”
For those who insist that it can’t happen here, it can and it has.
In 2005, cell service was disabled in four major New York tunnels, reportedly to avert potential bomb detonations via cell phone.
In 2009, those attending President Obama’s inauguration had their cell signals blocked—again, same rationale.
And in 2011, San Francisco commuters had their cell phone signals shut down, this time, to thwart any possible protests over a police shooting of a homeless man.
With shutdowns becoming harder to detect, who’s to say it’s not still happening?
Although an internet kill switch is broadly understood to be a complete internet shutdown, it can also include a broad range of restrictions such as content blocking, throttling, filtering, complete shutdowns, and cable cutting.
As Global Risk Intel explains:
“Content blocking is a relatively moderate method that blocks access to a list of selected websites or applications. When users access these sites and apps, they receive notifications that the server could not be found or that access was denied by the network administrator. A more subtle method is throttling. Authorities decrease the bandwidth to slow down the speed at which specific websites can be accessed. A slow internet connection discourages users to connect to certain websites and does not arouse immediate suspicion. Users may assume that connection service is slow but may not conclude that this circumstance was authorized by the government. Filtering is another tool to censor targeted content and erases specific messages and terms that the government does not approve of.”
How often do most people, experiencing server errors and slow internet speeds, chalk it up to poor service? Who would suspect the government of being behind server errors and slow internet speeds?
Then again, this is the same government that has subjected us to all manner of encroachments on our freedoms (lockdowns, mandates, restrictions, contact tracing programs, heightened surveillance, censorship, overcriminalization, shadow banning, etc.) in order to fight the COVID-19 pandemic, preserve the integrity of elections, and combat disinformation.
These tactics have become the tools of domination and oppression in an internet-dependent age.
It really doesn’t matter what the justifications are for such lockdowns. No matter the rationale, the end result is the same: an expansion of government power in direct proportion to the government’s oppression of the citizenry.
According to Global Risk Intel, there are many motives behind such restrictions:
“For instance, the kill switch serves to censor content and constrain the spread of news. This particularly concerns news reports that cover police brutality, human rights abuses, or educational information. Governments may also utilize the kill switch to prevent government-critical protestors from communicating through message applications like WhatsApp, Facebook, or Twitter and organizing mass demonstrations. Therefore, internet restrictions can provide a way of regulating the flow of information and hindering dissent. Governments reason that internet limitations help stop the spread of fake news and strengthen national security and public safety in times of unrest.”
In this age of manufactured crises, emergency powers and technofascism, the government already has the know-how, the technology and the authority.
Now all it needs is the “right” crisis to flip the kill switch.
This particular kill switch can be traced back to the Communications Act of 1934. Signed into law by President Franklin D. Roosevelt, the Act empowers the president to suspend wireless radio and phone services “if he deems it necessary in the interest of national security or defense” during a time of “war or a threat of war, or a state of public peril or disaster or other national emergency, or in order to preserve the neutrality of the United States.”
In the event of a national crisis, the president has a veritable arsenal of emergency powers that override the Constitution and can be activated at a moment’s notice. These range from imposing martial law and suspending habeas corpus to shutting down all forms of communications, restricting travel and implementing a communications kill switch.
That national emergency can take any form, can be manipulated for any purpose and can be used to justify any end goal—all on the say so of the president.
The seeds of this ongoing madness were sown several decades ago when George W. Bush stealthily issued two presidential directives that granted the president the power to unilaterally declare a national emergency, which is loosely defined as “any incident, regardless of location, that results in extraordinary levels of mass casualties, damage, or disruption severely affecting the U.S. population, infrastructure, environment, economy, or government functions.“
Comprising the country’s Continuity of Government (COG) plan, these directives (National Security Presidential Directive 51 and Homeland Security Presidential Directive 20), which do not need congressional approval, provide a skeletal outline of the actions the president will take in the event of a “national emergency.”
Just what sort of actions the president will take once he declares a national emergency can barely be discerned from the barebones directives. However, one thing is clear: in the event of a perceived national emergency, the COG directives give unchecked executive, legislative and judicial power to the president.
The country would then be subjected to martial law by default, and the Constitution and the Bill of Rights would be suspended.
The internet kill switch is just one piece of the government’s blueprint for locking down the nation and instituting martial law.
There may be many more secret powers that presidents may institute in times of so-called crisis without oversight from Congress, the courts, or the public. These powers do not expire at the end of a president’s term. They remain on the books, just waiting to be used or abused by the next political demagogue.
Given the government’s penchant for weaponizing one national crisis after another in order to expand its powers and justify all manner of government tyranny in the so-called name of national security, it’s only a matter of time before this particular emergency power to shut down the internet is activated.
Then again, an all-out communications blackout is just a more extreme version of the technocensorship that we’ve already been experiencing at the hands of the government and its corporate allies.
Packaged as an effort to control the spread of speculative or false information in the name of national security, restricting access to social media has become a popular means of internet censorship.
In fact, these tactics are at the heart of several critical cases before the U.S. Supreme Court over who gets to control, regulate or remove what content is shared on the internet: the individual, corporate censors or the police state.
Nothing good can come from techno-censorship.
As Glenn Greenwald writes for The Intercept:
“The glaring fallacy that always lies at the heart of pro-censorship sentiments is the gullible, delusional belief that censorship powers will be deployed only to suppress views one dislikes, but never one’s own views… Facebook is not some benevolent, kind, compassionate parent or a subversive, radical actor who is going to police our discourse in order to protect the weak and marginalized or serve as a noble check on mischief by the powerful. They are almost always going to do exactly the opposite: protect the powerful from those who seek to undermine elite institutions and reject their orthodoxies. Tech giants, like all corporations, are required by law to have one overriding objective: maximizing shareholder value. They are always going to use their power to appease those they perceive wield the greatest political and economic power.“
As I make clear in my book Battlefield America: The War on the American People and in its fictional counterpart The Erik Blair Diaries, these censors are laying the groundwork to preempt any “dangerous” ideas that might challenge the power elite’s stranglehold over our lives.
Whatever powers you allow the government and its corporate operatives to claim now, whatever the reason might be, will at some point in the future be abused and used against you by tyrants of your own making.
By the time you add AI technologies, social credit systems, and wall-to-wall surveillance into the mix, you don’t even have to be a critic of the government to get snared in the web of digital censorship.
Eventually, as George Orwell predicted, telling the truth will become a revolutionary act.

Wall-to-wall surveillance. I had heard that there was a pushback against facial scanners in the airports, which would result in removal of the ones already installed, but I just read a story tonight in Newsmax, “TSA to Expand Facial Recognition Tech at Airports” (1/29/24). They are in 30 airports and TSA is going to expand to 400 “over the coming years.” I doubt if it will take them that long. They seem to be in a hurry to get this one-world system up and running.

Quantum computing can render all current encryption obsolete the very moment it comes online.
Once quantum computing is merged with AI, its learning potential will be irreversible.
Quantum computing could break the Internet.
Julie Love, product leader for quantum computing at Microsoft who holds a Ph.D. in quantum physics, warned, “You will not own quantum computing; it will own you.”
On its website, the World Economic Forum proclaims they “have established the Quantum Computing Network, which facilitates collaboration with companies like Amazon, IBM, and Microsoft, as well as academic institutions and national governments… to prepare society more broadly for the significance of the transition.” Transition indeed. What quantum computing can do is unlike anything we have seen to date. Not only will this technology have the ability to control every aspect of life, business, finance, medicine, government, etc., but it will also be able to do this with such precision and speed that every person on earth could be placed into a one-world system.

I believe the reason for this is Obama actually moved behind a curtain and took the oath on the Koran. “They” didn’t want any cell phone photos, because people didn’t really understand what was happening and the photos could have later been a bombshell if anyone leaked the behind the curtain info, which did happen, but without any photos to prove it.

Another method of digital control is a sort of flashing after clicking a link on an email to access the website. This has recently begun with just one website. The browser is Safari. I can still access the website using DuckDuckGo, but of course it’s less convenient.

I haven’t had that trouble yet, as others send links to me from emails daily. Most of us send out links to others to stay informed. We are all trying to get info out to our email lists which should not be blocked (censored) by A.I., so others can keep up.

No one should be surprised that this is happening. What’s unsettling is how many people are in favor of it, whether explicitly or implicitly. When you vote for people who are likely to do this sort of thing, then you are part of the problem. I don’t care about your tribal loyalty when it is grossly misplaced. A govt that will violate my rights will also violate yours. Then what?
I’m afraid this red/blue paradigm no longer holds water, not in any meaningful way. It may have relevance on a couple of issues, guns and abortion perhaps, but otherwise, it’s not readily apparent. We keep spending money we don’t have with the backing of both parties. The border keeps being ignored, with the backing of both parties. Same for ongoing wars in Ukraine and the Middle East.
This is all happening in the open, in real-time, yet when stuff like the Twitter files is exposed, the messengers are attacked. MSNBC says, with a straight face, that it won’t air Trump’s victory speech in Iowa because it fancies itself as a fact-based news organization. What? Like no one saw the four-year ‘collusion’ hoax or the talking heads swearing up and down that Hunter’s laptop was disinformation, or this or that or the other. And the network’s audience buys it. Just like WaPo and NYT readers buy things that confirm their biases even while reading other stories that they know have errors.

One more thought I almost forgot was related to it all. It is a thing called ‘third places.’ I clicked on a video that was labeled ‘the loss of third places’ and it got my curiosity. It turns out that ‘third places’ are things like coffee houses, pubs, parks, etc. where people get together and socialize, meet, discuss politics and so on. It is a well known thing in much of Europe where people have lively discussions about anything under the sun with both friends and total strangers sitting around in street cafe’s. It was an intellectual pursuit and things like philosophy and the news of the day were discussed or games were played as they drank coffee and ate. Well the video explained that these places have been slowly but surely disappearing. Now with covid they got rid of them in one fell swoop and not by accident. I recently went on a hunt in the town where I live in search of such places. It used to be that the elderly would hang out in donut shops or other coffee shops and discuss these things, I have seen it in both big and small cities and towns. Now this is a rural area which makes it easier, but it is a colder place so in winter it is harder. Well the only donut shop that still has sit down booths had nobody the few times I investigated it. The downtown main street has cafe’s but it’s mostly people who go in groups and discuss mellow and boring topics that are unique to them. The restaurants don’t facilitate dialogue between people that are not in the same party (those at each table stick to their own folks and talk among themselves). There was a bakery that had a back room with lively discussions but they recently closed it to the public. There was a grocery store with a sandwich shop and a large corner set aside with tables and chairs for people to just lounge around and talk in, but with covid that got removed never to return. It was transitioned to a break area for employees and then remodeled into something else for the space. There is a fairgrounds but you have to pay to enter and only when they are hosting events. Of all the places in the town, there is not one town hall type place for anyone to assemble and have a dialogue about anything. And all of this is by design.

Another problem is that people don’t even know their own neighbors anymore and part of the reason is the internet ironically. Now we are so dependent on the internet because so much of society’s infrastructure is based on the internet. But before the days of the internet there was more socializing going on. Think of it, people met, dated, and got married, they made friends, they found jobs, they started a business, went to college, and so on; all without the internet. They even had revolutions and other things without the internet. Now the social networks are so weak and there is no interconnection that people are at a loss without it as if on a deserted island. Many are so addicted to internet games and other forms of entertainment that they would lose their minds without it. Society has changed so much as it has been molded by the internet and now to pull the plug would leave society in the dark and on a deserted island in so many ways.

L.A. McDonough – “The antichrist will be totally controlled by demons directing his orders..”
Leo posted a story last summer where at the end he asked us who we all thought the antichrist could be. I commented then and I still think now that Macron comes closest.
There is an interesting article: “Could Emmanuel Macron Be the Antichrist,” posted in 2018 on Christian Evidence by “Joel.” He correlates Bible prophecies about the AC with aspects of Macron. Some of his points plus quotes:
– He’ll come from a revived Roman Empire, which is located in Europe. Macron is European. Joel had Revelation 13:1-2, but I would also include Daniel 9:26.
– He’ll be a prince. Daniel 9:26. “Macron is technically a prince. He was named co-prince of Andorra, a small principality situated between France and Spain, when he took office.”
– He’ll make a “covenant” with many for one week (seven years). Daniel 9:27. If Trump hadn’t unveiled his plan for Israel and the Palestinian state, Macron was reportedly ready to show his. Since the war broke out between Israel and Hamas, he’s been involved in pushing for a peace process and two-state solution.
– He’ll rule a 10-nation confederacy. Revelation 13:1. “Macron has been advocating for the formation of a “Coalition of the Willing” consisting of ten core European nations to establish a joint EU Army.” An article in Politico about this (“Emanuel Macron’s Coalition of the Willing”) mentions these countries being involved: France, the U.K., Germany, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Portugal, Denmark and Estonia.
– He’ll declare himself God. 2 Thessalonians 2:4. “Macron has proclaimed that he will “rule like Jupiter,” the supreme deity in Roman and Greek mythology. He has also been given several titles in Europe, including “Jupiter,” “Europe’s Savior,” and the “Sun King reborn.” His five names and their meanings are rather startling when taken altogether:
§ Emmanuel: “God with us”
§ Jean: “God is gracious”
§ Michel: “who is like God?”
§ Frédéric: “peaceful ruler” (also the title for Jesus Christ in Isaiah 9:6-7)
§ Macron: a noun meaning “a written or printed mark”
– He’s symbolically described as the conqueror on a white horse. Revelation 6:2. “Interestingly, Macron reportedly had a vision a few years before becoming President in which he saw himself riding a white horse and leading France to glory, fulfilling his destiny.”
– He’ll have no regard for any deity except the god of the fortresses. Daniel 11:37-38. “Macron, who identifies as a secular lapsed Catholic, does not acknowledge any god. However, he has expressed his desire to govern in a manner reminiscent of the Roman god Jupiter and has referred to his administration as “Jupiterian.” Interestingly, the title “god of fortresses” belongs to none other than the Roman god Jupiter, whose Greek equivalent is Zeus.”

Some more points/quotes from Joel’s article “Could Emmanuel Macron Be the Antichrist”:
– He will be associated with the number 666. Rev. 13:18.
“Macron’s full name has 36 characters, and when you assign each character a value based on its position and add them together, the total is 666 (1+2+3+…+36 = 666). He also won the French presidency with 66.06% of the vote. Interestingly, the command to “count or calculate” the number of the Antichrist is translated from the Greek word psephizo, which has a secondary meaning related to casting votes in elections or decision-making processes.”
I verified what Joel says here and sure enough, Strong’s Greek 5585 pséphizó lists Thayer’s Greek Lexicon meaning of “to explain by computing, Revelation 13:18 (Polybius, Plutarch, Palaeph., Anthol.; commonly and indeed chiefly in the middle in the Greek writings to give one’s vote by casting a pebble into the urn; to decide by voting.)”
– He will “corrupt” the world through “flattery.” Daniel 11:32
“A source who has known Macron for years, as reported by the Financial Times, claims that he is a master of seduction who can charm even his enemies. The source elaborates on how he uses his polymathic abilities to quickly gain expertise in various subjects and win people over.”
You have to wonder, how did a teenage boy manage to charm a teacher old enough to be his mother to fall in love with him and eventually leave her husband and children to marry him later.
– He will be arrogant and ruthless. Daniel 11:36 and Daniel 7:23-25.
“Macron has faced criticism for his perceived arrogance… According to leading European psychiatrist Adriano Sagatori, “Like all psychopaths, he believes in his higher purpose. Macron does not love France and will not fight for the French people…Macron loves only himself…The paradox is that he appears normal, but we have a case of full-blown narcissism.” This perception of Macron is not isolated and seems to be shared by many.”
“Despite his public image, Sophie Pedder, the Paris bureau chief of The Economist and a Macron biographer, has reported that Macron can be very ruthless.”
He certainly shoved retirement benefits reform down the throats of the French people. Maybe his study of Machiavelli when he was a philosophy student has served him well!
There is much more to Joel’s article, if anyone is interested in reading it.
One last thing. The antichrist will need a right-hand man. Certainly, Schwab, Harari, or King Charles would be indispensable in that role as the false prophet. But last year I found another article about Macron as the AC, which has since been pulled from the internet. The author proposed that the crown prince of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud, could fit that job description.

Dumah (Heb. דּוּמָה dūmā, “silence”) is an angel mentioned in Rabbinical and Islamic literature as an angel who has authority over the wicked dead.[1][2] Dumah is a popular figure in Yiddish folklore. I. B. Singer’s Short Friday (1964), a collection of stories, mentions Dumah as a “thousand-eyed angel of death, armed with a fiery rod or flaming sword”. Dumah is the Aramaic word for silence.
The angel
edit
Duma(h) or Douma (Aramaic) is the angel of silence and of the stillness of death.[3]
Dumah is also the tutelary angel of Egypt, prince of Hell, and angel of vindication. The Zohar speaks of him as having “tens of thousands of angels of destruction” under him, and as being “Chief of demons in Gehinnom [i.e., Hell] with 12,000 myriads of attendants, all charged with the punishment of the souls of sinners.”[4] As the patron of Egypt, he disregarded the command of God to exercise judgment over the Egyptian deities. Whereupon God banishes him into Gehenna, there he becomes its ruler and three angels of destruction are appointed to him. He and his fellow angels torment the sinners every day in the week except on Sabbath.[5]

Churches are muzzled by the 501c3 and Priests/pastors could be fired for speaking out. I knew two people, assoc. pastors a decade ago, told to step down/leave for speaking out on vital issues . One started his own church and the other was pt time preacher when a church was looking for full time pastor. Churches became apostate in the mid 1950’s when they accepted the 501c3 perks ( very few turned it down knowing it was gov. control) as time went on mainline churches fellinto apostasy, used watered down Bible versions, focused on social centers, some putting up fitness centers and org. tours for bus trips, cruise ships, even tho’ travel agencies were doing the same thing. Several years ago, a S. Baptist church asked a man we know from the local coffee shop, to step down teaching adult classes on globalism/prophecy and not using the church outline for that class for sometime. Someone complained to the pastor. Churches don’t want tax audits and they don’t want anyone’s feelings hurt by teachers or pastors. Man pleasing political correctness applies.

I am quite sure the bullying and censorship of our free thought and speech on these platforms will be ramped up in this and coming years as the tyranny continues. The individual who does not espouse their views, ideals and belief system is an enemy.
Keep posting and sharing the Truth until you cannot, it’s a freedom until it is no longer…..
Thanks Leo for the shared article!

I’d recommend getting a ham radio, gmrs, or the very least outfit yourself and your people with cb radios. A license is required for ham (plus passing a test). A license is required for gmrs (no test needs to be taken).
CB radio requires no license or test. You can communicate up to 5-25 miles on sideband on cb radio.
Amateur radio (HAM radio), GMRS, and cb radio in times of crisis and natural disasters, is often used as a means of emergency communication when wirelines, cell phones, and other traditional terrestrial means of communication fail. Unlike commercial systems, these radio communications are independent of any network cellular telephone overload.

A couple I know near Ashville, NC are studying for the ham radio test, we used to be into CB radios and talked sometimes a long way off out of state. May be a good idea now just in case.

Amateur radio used to be a good hobby and there was a certain amount of camaraderie if you joined a local club. Many clubs would put up their own repeater stations so you could talk on 2 meter mobile rigs in your vehicles when traveling. Hamfests were frequently held where vendors sold new equipment and hams sold used. My husband and I were fairly active in it. He learned Morse code so he could get the most advanced license to be able to use every band. The basic license was a “no code tech,” which meant that you didn’t need Morse code but you were limited to 80 meters. If you want to get a license, you would have to contact the ARRL (American Radio Relay League) to find test locations. You would also want to study for it.
The FCC allocates bands and there are certain guidelines, since it’s a federal agency. When we were talking with someone on 2 meters 10 years ago, we never strayed into politics. You never know who else is listening and since you have to announce your call sign, that’s linked in the ARRL database to your name, etc.
