Let’s break down a crime scene from last week in a major U.S. city that I believe will be very instructional for all of us.
It was a scene that could have taken place in any large city and probably does every day.
A subway rider witnessed a violent mugging of a woman on a subway platform near New York City’s Times Square on Tuesday, November 7, and decided to act.
The woman was physically and violently attacked by a mugger trying to get her purse, a common occurrence in New York City, especially on the public-transit system. As a sidenote, on that same night, November 7, a man was randomly slashed in the face by a knife-wielding attacker at a subway station in the Bronx, ABC 7 reports.
Back to the main point of our story.
A 43-year-old male passenger on the subway witnessed the felony-in-progress of a woman being violently mugged by a homeless man. He pulled a pistol and fired two warning shots in the direction of the mugger. Both shots expended themselves harmlessly. No one was hurt.
The mugger immediately fled.
The shooter then calmly walked away but was arrested by NYPD officers a short time later.
The shooter has been charged criminally.
The mugger was also arrested, as he has been for similar felonies numerous times before, but he has already been released!
Here is the way the local ABC News affiliate reported the story:
Notice the subtle blame shifting in the comments by law enforcement in the local news coverage presented in the above video. The “bad guy” was not the homeless man who repeatedly mugs vulnerable women. No, it was the Good Samaritan who stepped in to defend the woman.
This is the type of thing we have to be aware of as our cities become more dangerous, and not just big cities but cities of all sizes that are run by leftists and globalists.
Firearms and defensive tactics instructor John Farnam, writing for Ammoland.com, provided the following lessons to be learned from this incident:
1) Warning shots are almost always a bad idea and are not recommended.
2) In the eyes of most prosecutors, “Flight Equals Guilt.” So even if you think you’re acting as a Good Samaritan, don’t leave the scene, unless you have to for your own safety.
3) In New York City (as in any number of other Democrat-run cities), liberal politicians and prosecutors expect you, indeed require you, to meekly submit to physical attacks by violent felons.
Farnam says any use of force, particularly deadly force, on the part of citizens who are attempting to defend themselves or other innocent parties at the hands of violent felons is always viewed as a crime.
Farnam spelled it out in no uncertain terms, writing:
“In plain English, Democrat/Marxists don’t want you protecting yourself from their precious criminals. As a resident, you are required to ‘accept’ violent crime as a condition of living there. You’re expected to be a good (i.e., cooperative) victim. Of course, these same politicians rely on a virtual army of heavily armed, taxpayer-funded bodyguards to protect themselves, so they don’t think violent crime is ‘a problem’ because, for them, it isn’t. For them, ‘violent crime’ is nothing more than casual conversation.”
This nonchalant attitude toward violent crime on the part of globalist politicians isn’t going to change anytime soon, so we need to adjust our thinking. I’m not saying we should stop being Good Samaritans, but we do need to be aware of our surroundings, practice situational awareness, and keep in mind the politics of the cities we frequent. A Good Samaritan in Newnan, Georgia, may be seen as a criminal in Atlanta or Savannah. Pick a state, and you can plug in cities to show the same dynamic.
Also be aware while you’re driving. There have been many cases lately of random shootings along busy highways. Heading into winter, it’s a good idea to outfit your vehicle with some bottled water, gloves, a warm hat, basic tools, rain gear, jumper cables, a lighter, a sturdy knife, hatchet, and small shovel. If you live in a state where it’s legal, I would also suggest keeping a means of self-defense hidden inside your car.
Farnam advises us to “stay out of New York City, Washington, D.C., Minneapolis, Austin, Texas; Portland, Oregon; Seattle, Chicago, San Francisco, et al. Don’t live there, and don’t go there!”
I would say that’s very good advice. But I would add that just about any city of 100,000 population or more, and many cities even smaller than that, are likely to be run by globalists with very different values than we are accustomed to seeing.

Best to also avoid Miami, Orlando, parts of Atlanta, Memphis, Nashville, Orlando either lean left and/or high crime. Asheville NC leans liberal. people migrating within this country cause political changes in other areas they move to..
People that live in these cities and others Leo mentioned like the liberal mentality and/or high crime.

Hey Leo! Nice job bringing us essential news. Above is another encouraging story following our EPIC A.G. of Missouri, Andrew Bailey: kicking out corruption here, one nasty globalist nazi at a time. Thank God!

If I may, one note: “If you live in a state where it’s legal,”
any state that makes self defense illegal is an illegitimate government and you should disregard it. Why are we still complying and consenting to this BS?

I agree with the sentiment, however, we should still know the laws of our state and be prepared for the potential consequences that flow from a decision in favor of compliance or non-compliance.

very true. we must be prepared to accept the consequences of our decisions, even if we truly believe them to be just.

Before I offer my opinion on this post, the following is some background for consideration:
First, my comments are in no way to be construed that I am in disagreement with Leo Hohmann. Although I do agree that the tables will ultimately be turned to favor perpetrators of violent crimes, in this case I believe there are several other mitigating factors to be considered.
Second, as a trained and qualified Marine rifleman (Expert M-16, Sharpshooter .45 pistol), the very first rule of engagement is to NEVER send lead downrange unless you intend to hit a target and/or kill someone. This is not only a basic concept taught within all branches of the military, but law enforcement as well. Hunters don’t fire warning shots, do they?
Third, many states have different classifications such as Concealed Carry Permit (CCP), Concealed Carry License (CCL) or Concealed Handgun License (CHL). For the purpose of these comments I’m using CCP. Accordingly, are we aware of the stringent requirements that NYC imposes on applicants for a CCP? The applicant must CLEARLY and UNEQUIVOCALLY demonstrate the need to carry that weapon. Conservative phony Sean Hannity has a CCP/CCL because he is a celebrity that receives threats on a continual basis. Apparently this so-called hero was not qualified to conceal carry because even though the gun was allegedly purchased legally, he did not have authorization to carry it. It matters not whether we agree with any jurisdictional laws. Likewise it doesn’t matter if someone believes the Second Amendment is the only permit required. Jurisdictions have passed these laws and violating them has consequences.
Fourth, the challenge in states where it is reasonably easy to get a CCP, there is no other qualification than to pass an FBI background check. My home state of Pennsylvania is one of those states. Some states do require a gun safety course, and I’ve lived in states where regardless of my training and background I was still required to complete the requisite course.
Fifth, if you are one of those folks who have a CCP and have never taken a course, please consider doing so. As with anything else in life, once we think we’re through learning, we’re through. You can never be safe enough. Resources will be listed beneath my comments.
Sixth, the concept of a “warning shot” does not exist in military or law enforcement environments, it is an invention of Hollywood. In TV and the movies it may make all the sense in the world; however, reality is far from real-world. In the military, it would instantly disclose your location and endanger your entire unit. In marksmanship training we learn the concept of “pass-through” shots. We need to be cognizant of what happens when we hit our target, and then what happens when that round hits only soft tissue and passes through the target (see JFK assassination). Are there innocent bystanders beyond the target, or within a 180 degree perimeter of the target? We need to know that because bullets could hit bone, pass through and deflect as far as 180 degrees in either direction. In subway stations or on platforms they can hit concrete, steel or other objects, and then ricochet and hit innocent bystanders. Do a quick search on “bystander struck by stray bullet” and you’ll clearly understand the danger.
OPINION: If law enforcement would not fire a “warning shot” NEITHER SHOULD A CIVILIAN! How many innocent lives were needlessly placed at risk because a man of considerable size (based on photos and videos) did not have the courage to physically intervene? Had he taken the initiative I’m relatively certain others would have joined in. But he shot and ran like the true coward he is. This person DESERVES to be, and rightfully was charged. Whether he was required to post bond while the mugger was not is a completely separate argument.
In closing, while in public I am constantly conducting my own threat assessments, and I am reasonably certain of what I will do, or will need to do in any situation to protect myself and my family. Maybe I’m not legally permitted to carry my weapon into a Phillies game or a federal building, but I still have a plan. My options may not be the same as yours, but I always have options and I’m certainly not about to publicize them in a public forum.

Practice your breathing, sight picture, sight alignment and trigger release to get live, real-time feedback on where your rounds are landing before you go to the range. Here’s a helpful hint – the Marines teach the BRASS system – Breathe, Relax, Aim, Stop (breathing), Squeeze (trigger). Learn it, apply it. One more hint – once you get proficient and are consistent hitting the 9-10 point rings, do 50 jumping jacks, 10 push ups and then try to fire! With an average resting heart rate of 60-75 beats per minute, in any confrontation your heart rate explodes to 150-200 beats per minute. That’s where you need to train. For those in the Phoenix/Chandler/Tempe AZ area who may be looking for world-class training, Powell is your guy. When I lived in New Mexico I had the privilege of training under him when he owned Patriot Outdoors. Stephen is an Air Force veteran and has taught marksmanship to virtually every alphabet vampire agency in our corrupt government, but please don’t hold that against him! When a guy can shoot a dead center bullseye from 21 feet on the first shot, and then put 6 more rounds through the SAME HOLE without enlarging it, that’s the guy you want training you! And to top it off, the last round he held the weapon UPSIDE DOWN and released the trigger with his little finger. Even that doesn’t happen in the movies, but it does happen with Stephen Powell.

Steve, did you not read the entire article? I quoted a self-defense expert, Mr. Farnam, who says outright that it’s never a good idea to fire “warning shots.” So you are indeed fortifying my article, not disagreeing with it, thank you. The purpose of this article was not only to warn people that the legal apparatus in many jurisdictions has been turning in favor of criminals but to also give advice on how to avoid being caught up in their legal snares. But I do appreciate your extension of that theme and giving even more detailed advice, which is something I wanted to do in a follow up article. So my question is, would you mind if I cited your expert knowledge in a future article?

Yes Sir, I did read the entire article! If my reply wasn’t clear it was intended to not only solidify expert opinions, but offer background into why “warning shots” are indeed ill-advised. As I clearly stated, my purpose was neither to disagree with you, nor to agree or disagree with a mugger being released with no bond while a so-called hero was bonded out at $10k. Clearly we can see the direction our (in)justice system is headed. Hopefully your readers will carefully consider the information I’ve presented and act upon it.
Wishing you the best! Keep up the great work!

“Likewise it doesn’t matter if someone believes the Second Amendment is the only permit required. Jurisdictions have passed these laws and violating them has consequences.”
we all get that, but my question is increasingly why we are still consenting to this. how much further will this all have to devolve before we finally decide that these governments are illegitimate and that not only should we stop complying, but we should defend ourselves AND OTHERS who come under their attempted coercion of their illegitimate law?

Every one of us in this thread is obviously like minded. Discussing what we will do, when we will do it and how we will do it in this forum is not the best practice.

We saw this with the guy on the NYC subway who was charged for subduing another attacker. I don’t see how “be a compliant victim” survives as a long-term strategy. It may take multiple instances like the one above to finally shake the cobwebs out of the heads of those in charge.
The formula is not complicated: govt’s single most important role is public safety. When govt fails to fulfill that role, it’s left up to citizens and it will be far more ugly if they take on the job. This is a country with millions of legal gun owners. Does anyone really want to see just how well-prepared they are to use their weapons?

Maybe they plan on vigilantism as an excuse for more control systems? But I suspect the chaos is meant to continue till after they bring on the Reset. Anarcho-tyranny is the means to that end.

Order out of chaos is the plan. Allowing illegals in the coutnry will increase the crime and speed up their plans for martial law and/or UN troops controlling cities and towns. Could also mean power outages and cell phone connections not working.

Yeah, except for the fact that Good Samaritans were essentially banned from owning firearms and ammo on Oct. 7 so their Good Samaritan instincts were rendered null and void by their own government.

It’s bigger than we think. What you are describing, Leo, in this very timely article, is — when BLOWN UP — what the world expects Israel to do : ” self-defense ” is expected / required / re-defined / as little more than submission to the violent criminal / attacker / terrorist. QUESTION : isn’t this sort of submission compatible with Sharia ? ?
LikeLiked by 2 people
Yes. The one serving his third term in the white house would like all of us to comply with Sharia. That’s what our open borders are for – to guarantee that we will, one way or another.

Thanks Leo! Coming to any city soon, maybe even small towns!
IRS Agents given high powered rifles (maybe even machine guns)
(I think ol Barry Sortero started arming different agencies even the National Forestry and Wildlife people)… Defend yourself from an illegal breaking into your home and shoot and kill him and thanks to the old pervert in the White House you may go to jail!…..Speak out at a school-board meeting disagreeing with how the school is teaching your children then the FBI may come to your house and arrest you!
Seems to me also it was under “Boy George” Bush JR. that started the “Militarizing of Local Police”…Giving them big military style 4x4s and lots of high powered weapons. Giving them open and less restricted force upon the citizens!…In other words in the quest to fight “Terrorism” the cops and any authority figure can do whatsoever it dang well pleases to the people!
I reckon having an Anti-Biden or Anti-Vaccine, Anti-War…etc bumper sticker may wind you up behind bars soon.

what s described above is, effectively, complying with an assault by a perp. IMO, it is not materially different from what an increasingly illegitimate government expects you to do when they attempt to coerce you, as well.
and, if I may be blunt, our response should be the same to both perpetrators.
